LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA 5) Rice and Corn Program has recently turned over PHP78 million worth of combine harvesters to farmers' cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in Camarines Sur early this month at its regional office in Pili town.

In a statement, Lovella Guarin, DA-5 spokesperson, said eight FCAs received the combine harvesters that will help boost farmers' productivity.

The FCA beneficiaries were the San Vicente Association of Corn Farmers; Umasarig Agriculture Cooperative of Panicuason; the United Corn Growers of Pili; Bato Farmers Federation of Cawagacan; Sipocot Farmers and Fisherfolks Agriculture Cooperative; Maydaso Farmers Small Water Irrigation System Association Inc.; Antipolo Minalabac Farmers Association Inc.; and Balid and Tagas Agri-Farmers' Association.

Guarin said the FCAs were also reminded by DA officials that although the farm machinery was provided for free, DA reserves the right to reclaim it if it is not properly maintained.

Purita Aala, president of the San Vicente Association of Corn Farmers, thanked the agency for the harvester.

"Mahalaga talaga po yan sa amin na mayroon na kaming harvester kasi makakapag padali-dali na kami ng pag pa harvest lalo na kung maulan. Maraming salamat po DA (It's really important to us that we now have a harvester because we can harvest more quickly, especially if it rains. Thank you very much, DA)," she said.
