DA lifts temporary import ban on birds, poultry products from France

MANILA – The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Thursday announced the lifting of a temporary ban on the importation of domestic birds, wild birds, and poultry products from France.

This came after Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. signed Memorandum Order No. 13 lifting the import ban following the resolution of all cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) or bird flu in France.

“This decision comes after an assessment by the DA’s Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and careful review of the situation in France, where the disease's containment appears to have been successful,” the DA said in a statement.

No further outbreaks were reported in France since Feb. 4, according to the official report of the French veterinary authorities to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
In particular, the Philippines may now allow the entry of poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen from France.

Tiu Laurel, however, said the DA maintained stringent monitoring and implementation of temporary import bans from countries with bird flu outbreaks.

These are Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, Maryland, Missouri, and South Dakota in the United States; and in East Otago, Waitaki, and Canterbury in New Zealand.
