Marcos Rallies Nation to Unite for Climate Resilience, Sustainability

MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has renewed the administration’s unwavering commitment to bold and decisive climate action, urging the entire nation to strengthen collective efforts toward building a climate-resilient Philippines.

In a statement released by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) on Wednesday, President Marcos highlighted that the annual Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week is a powerful reminder of the country’s shared responsibility to safeguard its environment and future generations.

“As Chairperson of the Climate Change Commission, I reaffirm our determination to confront the challenges of climate change with decisive action, especially now as we continue to recover from the impact of recent calamities,” he said in a video message marking CCC Week 2025.

The President underscored that the week-long observance provides a vital platform for policymakers, scientists, private institutions, and communities to harmonize national strategies with global climate commitments and sustainable development goals.

He also stressed the crucial role of responsible resource use and the integration of climate intelligence in decision-making, noting that all sectors must work together to strengthen national resilience.

President Marcos pointed to several ongoing government efforts—such as the National Adaptation Plan, the Nationally Determined Contribution Implementation Plan, and expanded initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and climate finance—as key foundations for a secure and inclusive future.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “Makabagong Kilusan Para sa Klima at Kinabukasan” (Innovative Movement for Climate and the Future), the President called on Filipinos to participate actively in strengthening climate preparedness and sustainability.

He encouraged citizens to view climate action not only as a duty but also as a pathway to long-term growth and prosperity.

“As we realize our vision of a Bagong Pilipinas, let us uphold climate governance, protecting the beauty and bounty of our land while ensuring the welfare of generations to come,” he said.

Climate Change Commission Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert E.A. Borje expressed gratitude for the President’s firm leadership in advancing the country’s climate agenda.

“Under his administration, we will continue to advance policies and actions that safeguard our people and secure our future,” Borje said, citing completed milestones such as the Philippines’ first National Adaptation Plan, the Nationally Determined Contribution Implementation Plan, updated greenhouse gas inventories, and the Biennial Transparency Report submitted to the UNFCCC.

President Marcos concluded his message with a call for solidarity, inspiring Filipinos to engage meaningfully in this year’s CCC Week activities.
