MANILA – The Department of Agriculture (DA) has extended support to more than 100 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Singapore, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to become successful “agripreneurs” under its ongoing initiative to promote agricultural entrepreneurship among Filipinos abroad.
In a statement released Tuesday, the DA said at least 110 OFWs and Filipino community leaders participated in the “Usapang Agribiz: Forum on Agribusiness Opportunities in Philippine Livestock and Poultry,” held at the AIA Alexandra on Nov. 9, 2025.
The forum introduced participants to profitable agribusiness opportunities—particularly in livestock and poultry production—and presented government programs designed to help OFWs invest their hard-earned savings in sustainable, income-generating agricultural ventures.
DA officials discussed existing support mechanisms, business models, and funding assistance available to aspiring agri-entrepreneurs. Successful Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) awardees Leon Vincent Paraguya of Wagling Cattle Enterprise and Kristin Angela Yap of Le Reinvente shared their entrepreneurial journeys, offering practical insights on starting and growing agribusinesses in the Philippines.
The event forms part of the DA’s continuing collaboration with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 4, 2024, aimed at transforming OFWs into productive partners in national food security and rural development.
The Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS) of the DA, which organized the forum, reaffirmed its commitment to provide mentorship, technical training, and market linkages to help participants bring their agribusiness ideas to fruition.
Currently, over 440,000 Filipinos reside and work in Singapore, representing a vast pool of potential investors and innovators for the country’s growing agribusiness sector.
