LAOAG CITY – In a remarkable show of support for education and youth empowerment, the municipal government of Currimao, Ilocos Norte has awarded ₱10,000 each to 30 aspiring board exam takers, marking the launch of its pioneering review assistance program.
Mayor Edward Quilala, joined by the Currimao Municipal Council, personally led the ceremonial distribution of the ₱300,000 total grant following the town’s flag-raising ceremony. The initiative is part of the local government’s continuing commitment to invest in education as a key driver of community progress.
Vice Mayor Judith Quilala emphasized that the program seeks to motivate graduates to pursue professional excellence while inspiring them to contribute to the town’s development.
“When we invest in people, we invest in the future,” she said, affirming the council’s united support for the project.
The assistance is open to graduates across all disciplines requiring licensure examinations — including medicine, engineering, teaching, agriculture, and fisheries — reinforcing the town’s inclusive approach to human capital development.
Recent government data revealed that Currimao has emerged as one of the country’s top-performing municipalities, achieving an impressive ₱20-million increase in local revenue in 2024. Alongside agriculture, education remains one of the coastal town’s key investment priorities aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods.
Noted neurologist, art collector, and philanthropist Dr. Joven Cuanang, a proud son of Currimao, commended the local initiative, describing it as “a visionary step that uplifts the youth and strengthens the town’s commitment to excellence.” He also encouraged the LGU to promote marine sciences among students to address pressing issues on climate change and sustainability.
