MAGALANG, PAMPANGA, PHILIPPINES — The Philippine Agri-Tech Ecosystem Expo (PATEEX 2025) proudly features two brilliant minds whose visions are revolutionizing agriculture through technology: Joel Sotomayor, Founder of mPowered Technologies Inc., and Henry V. Bayubay, CEO of BB 88 Advertising and Digital Solutions Inc.
These two innovators embody the Filipino spirit of resilience, creativity, and purpose fusing science, technology, and compassion to elevate farming communities and inspire a new generation of AgriTech champions.
Joel Sotomayor: Inventing a Smarter, Greener Future
A
Filipino-Canadian serial entrepreneur and inventor, Joel Sotomayor holds
five patents across ten jurisdictions, 2 Canadian Trademarks, and has
earned multiple international innovation awards in agriculture from Canada and
Australia.
He
pioneered:
•
Created IoT sensors to improve livestock welfare during land and
sea transport,
•
Is part of a Canadian consortium that has developed a flexible microgrid
systems that grant energy sovereignty to rural communities,
•
Developed low-cost smart sensors that enable banana producers to
digitize farm operations, increase yields, and reduce biosecurity risks, and
•
Has developed a novel lightweight encryption protocol to provide data
provenance and has been recently completed a research project via a Canadian
University to protect drone signals from hacking
Joel’s work reflects a mission beyond
invention empowering communities through accessible, sustainable technologies.
Henry V. Bayubay: Building Digital Ecosystems for Farmers
A
visionary software engineer, digital artist, and digital farmer, Henry V.
Bayubay has dedicated over three decades to merging creativity and code for
social impact.
From digital art and software
outsourcing in the 1990s to modern-day SMART agriculture systems, Henry’s
journey is a testament to persistence and national service. Amid the pandemic,
he refocused his expertise toward digital transformation in agriculture,
establishing platforms that connect farmers, cooperatives, and Indigenous
Peoples to technology, markets, and opportunities.
At PATEEX 2025, Henry unveils decades of
innovation under one mission: “Technology for the people, food for the nation.”
