The agro-chemical trading and marketing arm, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA), marked its return with the importation of 120,000 bags of 14-14-14 (Triple 14) inorganic fertilizer, aimed at reducing production costs and enhancing rice yields across the country.
The ceremonial turnover at the Orion Dockyard in Bataan was led by PPI President and CEO Ma. Zenaida B. Angpin, Chief Operating Officer Roberto Ram V. Antonio, BOC District Collector Blesilda Balagtas, and DA Regional Technical Director Irene Adion (Region III).
The fertilizer, sourced from Vietnam, contains equal parts nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium—key macronutrients essential for healthy crop growth, grain formation, and improved pest resistance.
“This initiative by PPI is fully aligned with the goal of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for a food-secure Philippines and a modernized agricultural sector that delivers better income for Filipino farmers,”
— Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr.
According to Laurel, the initial shipment—at six bags per hectare—can support around 20,000 hectares of rice fields, directly benefiting about 20,000 farmers nationwide.
PPI’s Chief Operations Officer Roberto V. Antonio highlighted that the company’s return to the fertilizer business after 43 years demonstrates the Marcos administration’s commitment to revitalizing agricultural inputs for the benefit of Filipino farmers.
“This revival reaffirms PPI’s legacy of providing affordable, high-quality fertilizers and farm inputs that ensure food security and agricultural growth,” Antonio said. “Under Secretary Tiu Laurel’s leadership, PPI once again stands as a steadfast partner in nation-building and farmer empowerment.”
PPI last imported fertilizer in 1982. Its re-entry signals a new era of sustainable farming support, focused on improving soil health, crop productivity, and the long-term stability of the country’s agricultural supply chain.
The company is also exploring future partnerships to guarantee a steady and affordable supply of fertilizers and farm inputs vital to achieving the nation’s rice self-sufficiency goals.
