MANILA – The Philippines has partnered with South Korea’s TYM Corporation, a global farm equipment manufacturer, to accelerate agricultural modernization in the country.
The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) and TYM Corp. signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Oct. 1, establishing a framework for training and technical collaboration.
PHilMech Director IV Dionisio Alvindia said the deal will help the agency establish a PHilMech Academy on Postharvest and Mechanization to strengthen the skills of Filipino farmers and technicians.
Over the next five years, TYM Corp. will develop training modules, deploy instructors, and conduct sessions for PHilMech engineers. Outstanding trainees will also be given the chance to undergo advanced training in South Korea.
“This agreement is a major step in modernizing Philippine agriculture through mechanization and related technologies,” Alvindia said, expressing gratitude to TYM Corp. Director Hokyum Kim for supporting the initiative.
The program will be implemented with oversight from FIT Corea Trading Phils., Inc., TYM’s local representative. Trained PHilMech staff are expected to pass on their knowledge to technicians and farmer-beneficiaries under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).
Founded in 1951, TYM Corp. now operates in more than 40 countries worldwide.
