
LEGAZPI CITY – More than 500 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in the Bicol Region received nearly PHP4 million in debt relief from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), coinciding with the 68th birthday celebration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
DAR-5 Regional Director Reuben Theodore Sindac said the initiative, conducted under the “Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat” program, included the distribution of Certificates of Condonation with Release of Mortgage (COCROMS) and livelihood packages to ARB organizations.
A total of 583 COCROMS were released, covering more than 578 hectares of agricultural land. The debt condonation breakdown includes: Albay with 324 COCROMS for 265 ARBs (₱1.1 million), Camarines Norte with 11 COCROMS for 11 ARBs (₱530,780), Camarines Sur with 119 COCROMS for 112 ARBs (₱1.4 million), Masbate with 127 COCROMS for 113 ARBs (₱874,646), and Sorsogon with two COCROMS for two ARBs (₱1,752).
Simultaneous ceremonies were held across the region: at the Fuerte Camarines Sur Sports Complex in Pili, Albay Provincial Agriculture Office in Camalig, Sorsogon Provincial Gymnasium, Masbate Provincial Capitol Grounds, LGU Daet Covered Court in Camarines Norte, and the Provincial Capitol Dome in Virac, Catanduanes.
To further support recovery, DAR-5 also distributed over PHP1.3 million worth of livelihood packages to 50 ARB organizations under the Bangon Oragon program, helping farmers bounce back from the impacts of typhoons “Kristine” and “Pepito” in 2024.
