TAYTAY, PALAWAN – A wave of hope and solidarity swept through Taytay on August 31, 2025, as farmers, youth, local officials, and indigenous leaders came together to plant 1,000 Narra trees in a landmark environmental activity led by the Pamantolon Sagingan at Sakahan Farmers Association Inc. (PSSFAI) and the Integrated Products Marketers Association of the Philippines (IPMAPi).
The initiative, part of the groups’ annual “Clean and Green Project,” was carried out in partnership with the local government unit of Taytay and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It reflects the community’s collective resolve to fight climate change, restore biodiversity, and build a greener future for the next generation.
What began just three years ago with barely 50 pioneering members of PSSFAI has now blossomed into a powerful movement of nearly 3,000 members, including neighboring barangays and indigenous peoples (IPs) eager to join the association. This rapid growth demonstrates how shared advocacy for agriculture and environmental protection can unite diverse communities under one vision.
The event was made even more meaningful with the strong support of Taytay Mayor Norbert Lim and Vice Mayor Delma Edep. Joining them were Sangguniang Bayan Councilor Bots Felezarte, Barangay Chairperson Mayola Destura, representatives of the Philippine Coast Guard, the SK Federation of Taytay, DENR officer Rodel Dorado, and Cuyonon Tribe leader Nets Bibat. Their presence reflected the spirit of unity—linking government leaders, civil society, and grassroots organizations in one shared mission for sustainability.
Each Narra sapling planted was more than just a tree in the ground—it symbolized resilience, hope, and the community’s determination to safeguard the environment. Narra, the country’s national tree, was chosen for its strength and longevity, qualities that mirror the enduring spirit of Taytay’s people.
For the youth and farmers of Northern Palawan, the tree-planting activity is more than a one-day affair; it is an invitation to live out a lifelong commitment to caring for the earth. “Our advocacy is not only about farming,” PSSFAI leaders said. “It is about protecting the land that feeds us, ensuring cleaner air, and leaving behind a healthy environment for future generations.”
The growing support for the project shows how communities can become strong allies of government efforts to combat climate change. By planting trees, protecting farmlands, and promoting sustainable agriculture, Taytay is proving that local actions can have a national impact.
As the final Narra sapling was laid into the soil, participants were reminded that their efforts represent a living legacy. What started as a modest initiative has now become a movement—one that will continue to grow and inspire, just like the trees that will one day provide shade, oxygen, and life to the people of Palawan.
