LEGAZPI CITY — The Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5) has distributed ₱11.8 million worth of composting facility technology packages for biodegradable waste to farmer groups in Camarines Sur, aiming to promote organic farming and improve agricultural productivity.
DA-5 spokesperson Lovella Guarin said the program is designed to strengthen the capacity of cooperatives and research institutions in producing organic fertilizers while reducing farm waste.
“The goal of these interventions is to empower cooperatives to produce their own organic fertilizer and cut down on farm waste,” Guarin said in a statement on Wednesday.
Fifteen farmer groups received the composting packages after undergoing training and hands-on demonstrations to ensure proper and productive use.
Larry Berin, vice chair of the Caanduyog Agriculture Cooperative, welcomed the initiative. “This will greatly help us as we practice organic farming. The surplus products from this facility can also be sold by our cooperative,” he said.
