More Agencies Join Drive to End Hunger in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has gained new allies in its Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program, with several agencies formally joining the initiative to combat hunger and reduce poverty in Eastern Visayas.

On August 12, the DSWD signed a supplemental memorandum of understanding with the Department of Economy, Planning and Development; Commission on Higher Education (CHED); Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE); Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP); and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

DSWD Eastern Visayas Regional Director Grace Subong said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to the program’s goals.

“This marks a significant milestone. Their cooperation is a testament that we are united in ensuring we achieve our objectives. This aligns with our Sustainable Development Goals — No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Partnership,” Subong said.

EPAHP takes a whole-of-nation approach, fostering collaboration among government agencies, local government units, and community-based organizations. It provides agri-fishery livelihood groups with direct market access, along with technical training, credit assistance, and community development programs.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has previously urged agencies to strengthen support for EPAHP to achieve zero hunger, ensure food and nutrition security, and promote sustainable agriculture.
