BAGUIO CITY – A ₱368-million farm-to-market road and bridge project in Ifugao is set to boost agricultural productivity and provide better market access to over 3,800 farmers across eight farming communities.
Department of Agriculture–Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) Regional Director Atty. Jennilyn Dawayan said the project, which covers the Caba-Luta-Ponghal-Buyabuyan road in Lagawe, will also enhance the operations of existing coffee enterprises in the area.
“There are many coffee production activities here, and we hope this project will significantly improve farmers' access to the market,” Dawayan said in an interview.
The project is being implemented under the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Scale-Up program. It was first proposed by the municipal government of Lagawe in the previous administration.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, where Dawayan emphasized the importance of community participation.
“This is a shared responsibility. From start to finish, the community, local officials, contractor, and DA-PRDP must work together to monitor the project and ensure quality and timely completion,” she said.
Vice Governor Martin Habawel Jr., who originally proposed the project when he was Lagawe mayor, described it as a “dream come true.”
Mayor Leslie Roy Nayahangan also lauded the initiative, calling it a “significant blessing” for Lagawe that could unlock the town’s full potential when complemented by other development projects.
