Bukidnon Brews Future of Coffee with Farmer Training Initiative

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Bukidnon province is sharpening its competitive edge in the coffee industry through a comprehensive training program for 30 farmer-leaders and nursery operators, a strategic move aligned with its ambitious 10-year Coffee Roadmap (2025–2035).

Governor Rogelio Neil Roque said the training, spearheaded by the Provincial Agricultural Office and facilitated by the Agriculture Training Institute, underscores Bukidnon’s commitment to building a sustainable, world-class coffee industry.
“When we first called for strengthened capacity development for our farmers, we knew it had to start at the roots—literally and figuratively,” Roque remarked. He emphasized that well-managed nurseries are the backbone of a thriving coffee value chain.

Running from Wednesday to Friday, the training equips participants with essential knowledge in coffee nursery management, seedling propagation, and distribution strategies — all critical in securing a steady and quality supply of coffee plants for future expansion.

At the heart of Bukidnon’s Coffee Roadmap is the vision to transform the province into the “Arabica Capital of the Philippines.” The plan aims to strengthen every link of the value chain, from farm to cup — ensuring sustainability, quality, and profitability through farmer empowerment, improved production systems, and strategic marketing.

Beyond producing high-quality beans, Bukidnon’s coffee strategy is rooted in creating opportunities for local farmers, cooperatives, and agripreneurs to thrive in both domestic and global markets.

With these efforts, Bukidnon is brewing not just better coffee — but a stronger, more inclusive agricultural economy.
