Cagayan de Oro City – Misamis Oriental Governor Juliette Uy met with representatives from the South Korean Embassy in the Philippines and officials from the Department of Agriculture–Region 10 (DA-10) on Thursday, July 3, to explore collaborative efforts aimed at boosting the province’s agricultural sector.
The high-level meeting, held in Cagayan de Oro City, centered on potential development projects that include infrastructure upgrades, farmers' skills training, and supply input support. Provincial Agriculture Office chief Dr. Benjamin Resma confirmed that early discussions also touched on the possible establishment of processing centers, cold chain facilities, grain hubs, and smart greenhouse systems—efforts that align with modern and sustainable farming practices.
“These initiatives are part of the province’s ongoing strategy to modernize agriculture while preserving existing best practices,” said Resma. One such practice, he noted, is the continued support for the weekly farmers’ market held at the provincial capitol grounds. “As long as they are residents of Misamis Oriental, we will provide them with a venue to sell their fresh produce directly to consumers,” he added.
The proposed partnership with the South Korean government reflects Misamis Oriental’s commitment to innovative agricultural development and food security. A group of local farmers has also requested a dialogue with Gov. Uy to express their support for the initiative and their shared aspiration to enhance productivity across the province.
